Apparently, the talk show host and comedienne never felt comfortable at Fox’s flagship karaoke contest and her rumoured feud with Simon Cowell (they hated each other) didn’t help.  Ellen and her reps supposedly went to the network brass and asked to be let out of her contract one year early, saying she wasn’t happy and “it’s not been fun”.  Yikes.

In a statement posted on her website, Ellen wrote, “A couple months ago, I let FOX and the “American Idol” producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn’t leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on “Idol” and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.”

There’s nothing wrong with hurting someone’s feelings if they hurt your ears first.  Just sayin’…

For their part, execs at Fox continue to be all smiles, saying how wonderful it was to work with Ellen, blah blah blah, “fortunate to work with”, blah blah, ”incredible spirit”, blah.

Meanwhile, Deadline Hollywood says that Jennifer Lopez has signed on to replace Ellen in a secret deal that was finalized earlier this week.  J-Lo could use the work and the money, seeing how her career hasn’t exactly been on an upwards trajectory lately.  So far this year, she’s been dropped by her record label and her latest movie, The Back-up Plan flopped.

No word if new producer Nigel Lythgoe plans on making “other” changes on American Idol (cough – Ryan Seacrest, Randy Jackson, Karla Diogardi – cough).  Rumour is that Nigel really wants Elton John to come in to replace Simon Cowell (whom he makes look like Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm), but Elton supposedly wants too much money and has touring committments he can’t get out of.   Boo.

The famewhoring father of Lindsay Lohan, who’s been appearing on all the tabloid shows he can recently, engagement to the equally odious Kate Major apparently came to a crashing halt when he allegedly went all Mel Gibson on her and pushed her out of a chair then kicked her in the face.

Police are investigating the allegations as Kate had previously got a restraining order against him (it’s worth noting that he’s been accused of domestic violence before).  Michael is now trying to sell nude pics he took of Kate while she was sleeping this past spring.  Charming.

Of his actions, Kate says “He took these pictures of me without my knowledge. At the time he was my fiancé. I have just found out about these images today and moving forward my lawyer, William O’Conner, will be handing the legalities of anyone that reproduces them.”

Lohan for his part says (without any apparent irony) “She has no money, no job and she’s been living off of me for the last eight months. If she doesn’t stop the nonsense, more and more will come out. I am tired of being used by people who need to make up stories to make money off others.”

Why would anyone want to see the z-list ex assistant of Lindsay Lohan, who became a Star Magazine reporter, only to quit her job to date Jon Gosselin, whom she then dumped for Michael Lohan naked?  

Try as I might, I have little sympathy for Kate.  You know what they say about lying down with dogs…

TMZ is saying this was why he met with Judge Marsha Revel late yesterday afternoon.

Poor Lindsay.  No one wants to represent her.  Either this means she’s going to go ahead and try to go on the lam appeal her sentence today, or her cheque bounced. 

Lindsay is scheduled to show up to court later this morning to begin her 90 day stint in prison for parole violation. 

Major drams and a media circus is a forgone conclusion.

That was quick.  Guess the Donald does not believe in hiring pill popping love junkies to compete on Celebrity Apprentice.

Once Trump found out that Faithless Hussy (Rachel Uchitel) was going to be on Celebrity Rehab, he rescinded his offer, saying “It’s a terrible decision, we have zero interest in her now. Look at what Celebrity Apprentice did for Piers Morgan. He’s getting Larry King’s job. She made a bad mistake. Celebrity Apprentice is a huge show, Celebrity Rehab is not. I have 10 people who want to be on the show for every slot that’s available. I’m moving on.”

Ouch.

Oh well, it’s not like she needs the money anyway.  Faithless Hussy allegedly got $10 million to keep her trout mouth quiet regrading all things Tiger Woods, and is supposedly getting $500 000 to be on Celebirty Rehab.

Kelsey Grammer, currently in the midst of divorcing the permanently 41 year old and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast-member Camille Donatacci, never had her sign a pre-nup when they got married back in 1997.

Cripes.  

This means in all likelihood Kelsey is going to have to fork over 50% of all earnings he made between then and now, a figure rumored to be at least $100 million.

Lets hear it for them folks!  Kelsey Grammer, new poster child for male pattern idiocy, and Camille Donatacci, gold-digger standard setter.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

This just made my morning. 

According to Radar, even though she was one of the higher profile celebrities (which says it all) for the current season of Dr Drew’s infamous exersise in schadenfreude, word is the good Doctor realized that Tila’s main problems are that  (A) she’s addicted to attention and (B) is bat-sh*t crazy.

Apparently, the final straw for the good doctor was when Tila blamed her alter-ego “Jane” for cutting and burning her arms.  Realizing he was in way over his head with this one, Dr Drew had her tossed out, free to terrorize LA once again with her famewhoring shenanigans.

No word if how or if this will affect production of Celebrity Rehab, or if they plan on replacing Tila with a less trainwrecky trainwreck.

Cue countdown for one of Tila’s patented online tirades against Dr Drew in 5…4…3…

This just continues to get worse and worse (yet more fascinatingly entertaining at the same time).  

Mad Mel Gibson fresh from having more tapes released of him yelling and screaming at his gold-digging baby mama Oskana Gregorieva, (and using various racial slurs) was dumped over the weekend by his agency, William Morris Endeavor Entertainment.

Depending on who you believe, Mad Mel always planned on leaving the agency after his agent shrugged off this mortal coil (he died July 3rd) or agency partner Ari Emanuel, who’s hated Gibson ever since his anti-semetic tirade in 2006, was behind the split, but had to put up with Gidson’s presence for Mel’s agent sake.

Also?  The police have opened an investigation over the possibility of domestic violence in the Gibson-Gregorieva relationship, apparently expressing concern that she didn’t come forward when the alleged assault took place.

As for Gold-digger, she’s said to have “no idea” who leaked the tapes (sure she doesn’t) but thinks “it’s terrible”.  Well, of course it is!  It’s harder to extort money from someone when what you had on them has been let out of the bag, so to speak. 

Radar  says the reason for all this drama in the first place is that Mad Mel had Gold-digger sign a cohabitation agreement, preventing her from claiming any of his fortune if they went their separate ways. 

Will Mad Mel be able to climb back into Hollywood’s good graces or is he completely done, like a drunken prom queen behind the bleachers?  Will Gold-digger manage to get some of Mel’s money or except for Child Support (which trumps everything) is she SOL?

These make that whole “Sugar Tits” thing from a few years back pale in comparison.

As you know, Mel’s ex-girlfriend, professional gold-digger Oksana Grigorieva claims that Mel beat her up this past January, leaving her bruised and with two broken teeth (she left him this spring). Mel and his legal team have denied this, claiming it was only a yelling match, with both sides issuing restraining orders on one another. 

Apparently, Mel is refusing to cough up the money Oksana is likely almost certainly seeking from him, and a tape was leaked to Radar last week, where the actor is heard saying, “You look like a f*cking pig in heat.  If you get raped by a pack of n*ggers, it’ll be your fault.”   

Now another tape has been released, where Mel tells Oksana “You know what?  You f*cking deserved it”, when she asks him what kind of a man would hit a woman twice in the face while holding a child in her hands.

Opps.

Oksama claims that she started to secretley tape Mel after he threatened to kill her.  No word yet if the police or Child Protective Services in Malibu have become involved, but it wouldn’t be surprising if they start an investigation. 

As for the probable shake-down attempt, I don’t think Mel will be forking over any money to Oksana now that she’s exposed him.  Do you?

It’s the end of an era as semi-mummified CNN mainstay Larry King is stepping down after 25 years as host of Live with Larry King.

Apparently, sources close to Larry say the reason for his decision has much to do with the recent drama surrounding his wife Shawn Southland and the “mess that is his personal life”.  

In Larry’s full statement, he says’s he’s not completley done with CNN yet and will host several specials a year, but his reign as host of Live will be over by the end of the summer.

Let the guessing games for a successor begin again, as CNN has yet to name Larry’s heir apparent.  Ryan Seacrest and Piers Morgan have both been mentioned in the past (and we know it’s probably not going to be Kathy Griffin).  Even though he has his own show with his own time slot, my money’s still on the Silver Fox himself, Anderson Cooper.
