Question is, will this western by the Coen brothers, in which a young girl (Hailee Stienfeld) hires a grizzled US Marshal (Bridges) and a Texas Ranger (Matt Damon) to track down her Pa’s killer (Josh Brolin), be an Oscar contender? 

If the trailer is any indication, you bet your sweet ass.

Jesse Eisenberg (Mark Zuckerberg), Andrew Garfield (Eduardo Saverin) and Justin Timberlake (Sean Parker) strike a pose at last night’s after party for the New York Film Festival premiere of The Social Network.

The movie’s generating all kinds of positive buzz, including (shockingly) JT’s performance.  Great.  Like he wasn’t egotistical enough before.

Meanwhile, the real Mark Zuckerberg, in a totally non-PR unrelated move to counter the negative portrayal of him in the movie, appeared on Oprah yesterday to donate $100 million to the Newark school system (there’s been much yammering on Oprah lately about how the little darlings need good schools and education) which is totally totally a coincidence, both Mark and Oprah swear!

Nothing like seeing Jakey in almost all his glory in a poster for the upcoming film Love & Other Drugs, which also stars what’s-her-name (I kid – Anne Hathaway).

Hopefully, this takes some of the taint left from Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time off of Jake.  If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and keep it that way.  It’s really that bad.

Look!  New trailer (you can go back to oogling Jake in a moment).  BTW there’s another poster for the movie making the rounds that shows Jake pulling off his underwear.  Totally hot, but it’s a fake (unfortunately).

Johnny Depp stars along with Angelina Jolie in a thriller about a man on vacation pulled into a plot by a femme fatale in Venice.  Flirting, kissing, chases, gun fights, spying, espinoge, double crosses, plot twists, and bad English accents ensue.

They had me at Depp and Jolie.

Country Strong sort of picks up a few months from where the (from what I can tell) far superior Crazy Heartleft off, a washed up country singer recently sprung from rehab, trying to get back on top.  Except in instead of grizzled “old country” Jeff Bridges, we get snotty, pretentious, “new country” Gwyneth Paltrow. 

The film also stars Tim McGraw as her lover/manager, my new fantasy boyfriend Garret Hedlund as another country singer who gets pulled into the crazy, and Gossip Girl’sLeighton Meester as a new star on the horrizon that’s trying to pull an All About Eveon poor Goopy’s character (nice to see her finally step out of Blake Lively’s shadow).

Not sure if this is theatre or rental material, but I think they should have called it Crazy Heart 2: Goopy Goes to Nashville.

Guess it was time to ditch the Just For Men(sidenote: those commercials are the absolute worst), go au natural, and embrace his inner daddy.  Suits him no?

Currently in Venice to promote his movie The Town, which he wrote, directed, and starred in before heading to Toronto for the TIFF, Big Ben shocked some people when he showed up with salt and pepper hair.  (He had been sporting decidely darker hair just two months ago).

Looks hot.  Me likey.

As for The Town, early buzz has been very good, and with a cast that includes Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, and the suddenly ubiquitous Blake Lively, looks like it could be an early Oscar contender. 

The Town opens September 17.

The movie, in which alien ships invade LA (apparently the city of choice for alien invasions in 2011, with Battle: Los Angelesalso scheduled for release later that year) seems all to familiar.

Maybe it’s the reboot of V or Independence Day I’m thinking of.  Then again, once you’ve seen a bunch of CGI spaceships hovering menacingly over a city, there’s really no going back is there?

Will this do better at the theatres than Nine? 

Will Burlesque become an instant camp classic?

Will Christina Aguilera find a hit through this movie that she didn’t in her album Bionic?

Will Cher be able to move her face or show any expression whatsoever without CGI?

Will Stanley Tucci be lost without regular co-star Meryl Streep?

Guess we’ll have to wait til November when the movie opens for answers.

Looks like the studio is somewhat disappointed in the box office haul that Eclipse took in. 

In theory, Eclipse should have surpassed New Moon as the film had a somewhat broader appeal with more action sequences and opened at the end of June, but as of now the worldwide take is “only” $644 million dollars on a movie that cost about $65 million to make (as opposed to New Moon with a $709 million dollar take on a $50 million dollar investment).

Better reviews aside, perhaps people were on summer vacation, had other things to do, or maybe, just maybe, this whole Twilight phenomenon is begining to wind down and lose steam.  A frenzy can only last so long, and this one’s been going on for almost two years now. 

Clearly hoping that it’s a question of timing and not interest level, Summit Entertainment announced today that the second part of Eclipse won’t be released in the summer of 2012 as originally planned, but on November 16th instead (part one will be released November 18th of this year). 

Looks like Sparkles and company are going to have to suck it up and promote the franchise for a few extra months longer than they expected.  Filming on Eclipse begins later this fall.
