Did Christina Aguilera blink over tour dates?

Despite the tickets just going on sale about a week ago, Christina Aguilera has cancelled her 20 date North American summer tour that was to promote her new album Bionic, which drops June 8th.

According to Christina’s spokesminions, the main reason the singer is postponing the tour is because she felt there wasn’t enough time to rehearse the show between promoting the album and starting the tour on July 15th.   There’s also word Christina wants to be well rested to promote her movie Burlesque, which opens in late November.  The Bionic tour has been rescheduled for sometime in 2011.

This probably has everything nothing to do with the fact that rival Lady Gaga has 43 date tour throughout North America this summer as well, starting June 28 in Montreal and finishing up September 19th in Raleigh, NC.

Between this and the public’s “meh” reception to the video for Not Myself Tonight, Christina and her people are probably starting to get worried.

Who needs American Idol when you have YouTube?

“>

No judges or personality clashes and the only votes are the number of hits your video gets (less stressful).

Justin Bieber got his start on YouTubewith his mother posting videos of him covering different songs.  Eventually both Justin Timberlake and Usher took notice and the rest is earache inducing history.  Now it looks like it’s Greyson Chace’s turn.

Who?

A 12 year old from Oklahoma with that ubiquitous haircut who covered Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” so well, the clip of him performing it above has been viewed almost 17 million times.

This has got the attention of Hollywood, Gaga herself, and a record label.  Thursday, Greyson appeared on Ellen Degeneris’ show to perform.  While speaking to the host, his idol and inspiration, Lady Gaga herself called in, wishing him well and telling him to “stay focused” and “away from girls”.

 Heh.

Over the weekend, Interscope president Jimmy Lovine swooped in and signed Greyson before any other labels could start sniffing around, making Greyson now a label mate with his idol and inspiration, Lady Gaga.  I sense a duet in the making.  Here’s hoping the kid’s voice dosen’t crack too much when it changes.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…

…or proof that original ideas are dead.

What a difference in perception 18 months can make.  Remember when Lady Gaga first came on the scene with “Poker Face” and the comparisons to Christina Aguilera started up, especially when it came to her sound (both vocal and instrumental?)

At the time, Lady Gaga said something to the effect that she loved Christina Aguilera, having listened to her music while growing up.

Zing!

(For the record, Gaga just turned 24, while Aguilera is the ripe old age of 29.  Kind of long in the tooth in the increasingly youth dominated pop music market, where the average singer tends to still be in his or her teens).

Anyhoodle, it appears that the rivalry is starting to bubble up again, since Christina’s video for “Not Myself Tonight” has been criticized as a Lady Gaga “knock off” (wasn’t that supposed to be the whole point?).  It’s a perfect example of why artists seem to waste no time in putting out new material lately.  Wait too long in between albums, and you lose your place in the pecking order.

Apparently on the defense, fans for Team Aguilera are now pulling out the big guns, releasing photos that seem to indicate Gaga is copying Christina’s style.  All this may be for naught, though, as before Christina, singer Roisen Murphy was doing it (90′s) who really was copying Jane Child before her (late 80′s), who was taking a que from Nina Hagen (late 70′s early 80′s)….

Meh.  Whatever.

I just hope they have fun with it, and someone convinces the two of them to do a duet together at next September’s MTV Video Awards.

Right back at you – Lady Gaga counter sues

Here we go with yet another legal tennis match between the “haves” and the “have mores”.

Citing that music producer Rob Fusari took advantage of her naivete by getting her to sign an illegal contract, Lady Gaga and her legal team have fired back from his $30 million dollar lawsuit against the singer in a counter suit launched Friday.

The suit claims that Fusari’s actions in 2006 ”were predatory and financially abusive” and the contract he had her sign “was structured in such a way as to mask its true purpose – to provide the defendant unlawful compensation for their services as unlicensed employment agents”.

Translation: The contract he had Gaga sign is invalid as he wasn’t a licensed agent at the time, so she dosen’t own him a dime.

What so you think the odds are that Fusari ends up settling his suit for an undisclosed sum (albeit a lot less than $30 m originally sought)?

A good example of a bad romance

Or a potentially expensive one.

Lady Gaga has just been slapped with a $30 million dollar lawsuit by the producer that says he made her (and also happened to date her).

According to NYDN, Rob Fusari claims that he’s the one that came up with the name “Lady Gaga” and co-wrote her hit Paparazzie.

Fusari’s lawyer says back in 2006, his client was first introduced to Lady Gaga (aka Stephanie Germanotta) and realized when she played him some songs she had “star potential” but that he would need to help her reach it.  Fusari also contends he was the one that suggested the singer add dance beats to her music and helped strengthen her song-writing skills.

Fusari is now seeking a 20% cut based on a contract he signed with Gaga’s “people”, Team Love Child and Mermaid Music.  Guess this is the “I want your revenge” lyrics to her song put into practice.

No word yet from Gaga or her camp, but you just know she’ll probably show up dressed as some hybrid of a 19th century hanging judge and a futuristic club kid as a way of responding to these claims.

Lady Gaga “Telephone” video released

“>

Is it just me or does the song seem like it’s been out forever already?

Anyhoodle, yesterday Lady Gaga released the video for Telephone, featuring Beyonce and in doing so seems to have put those “is she a hermaphrodite?” rumours to rest.  At least for the time being.

If you have about ten minutes to kill, you should check it out.

She should have left her phone at home…

Coz this is a disaster.

Lady Gaga is busy in England touring and doing promotion for her album The Fame Monster (seen here on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on the BBC).

The second single (which, cliche that I am, love) Telephone, continues to do very well on both dance and top 40 music charts on both sides of the Atlantic.

Wonder if Rihanna will show up to some event wearing a satellite dish in response?

Thank God she wasn’t in the mood for Veal…

Or crab cakes.

Lady Gaga proves that shes all about the three r’s (reduce/reuse/recycle) by showing up after her concert in London wearing a dress made out of those plastic collars they give cats and dogs that have had surgery, a diamond encrusted entree on top of her head, and a chicken leg attached to her wrist.

Ok, I don’t “get it” either, but I’m (A) looking forward to seeing how LG tops this outfit and (B) seeing how Rihanna responds.  I still think these two have a little game of one-upmanship going on in their wardrobe selections.  Maybe the two of them can do a duet of some sort?  That would be awesome (now watch as that suggestion becomes rumour and goes viral).

Gaga for Gaga

Don’t expect a knockoff of this to be available shortly at JC Penny any time soon.

Drag queens everywhere “oohed” and “ahhhhed” and began taking notes when they saw Lady Gaga debut yet another galmourous creation from the Haus of Gaga at the Grammy’s last night.

Not sure I’m buying the over yellow extentions though.  They look like she picked them up from some dollar store on her way to the ceremony.

How many versions of this outfit do you think we’ll see next Halloween?

The Lady meets the Queen

royal_variety_1_wenn2684581[1]

I doubt Her Majesty has ever seen anyone quite like Lady GaGa, and I doubt she ever will again.

The Queen, along with her husband, Prince Philip, attended the Royal Variety Show in Blackpool, which was headlined by Lady GaGa.  For her performance, GaGa sang her new song Speechless, which she wrote for her father, who was also in the audience.  Playing at a piano suspended some 30 feet in the air and dressed as Elizabeth the 1st, GaGa was decked out in in a  red pleather number, although she removed the accompanying high collar and 20 foot train prior to actually meeting the Queen.  She also showed due respect by giving a gracious bow, unlike her counterpart.

Who would that have been?  Miley Cyrus, performing in tight hot pants, making her Party in the USA moves.  Oh well, if you can’t be yourself, right?  No telling what the Royals made of her, although I suspect they’re a lot more “with it” then most people give them credit for.  Miley also changed prior to meeting the Queen, albiet in a fairly low cut ball-gown that some are deeming inappropriate for meeting royalty, let alone a 17 year old.  She’s a hill-billy y’all, what do you expect?
