Critics loved it. Viewers ignored it.  So Fox moth-balled it.

Lone Star, a drama about a con-man living a double life in Texas, failed to make much of splash when it debuted two weeks ago.  Although it’s show-runner, Kyle Killen, made a public appeal for more people to tune in, viewership actually dropped from about 4.1 million to about 3.2 for the second (and one assumes last) episode to air.

The show was hailed as one of those nuanced character driven ensembles that seem to flourish on cable, but get sent to a quick death on network television, which (lets face it), tends to cater to the lowest common denominator.

Here’s hoping star James Wolk (above) gets another gig soon, he’s kind of  handsome in a generic way, even though he sort of has date rapey eyes.

If only some actresses with even less range (cough-Aniston-cough) would follow suit…

The plucky actress, who made a name for herself playing equally plucky characters in TV (What I Like About You), and film (What A Girl Wants, She’s The Man, Sydney White), announced via her Twitter account that she’s quitting acting, writing in a series of Tweets, “I don’t love acting anymore so I’ve stopped doing it. Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem.  I’ve never written the movies & tv shows I’ve been apart of I’ve only acted like the characters the producers or directors wanted me to play.”

Her spokesminion has yet to comment on her revelation.  Hmmm.  Maybe Amanda Bynes isn’t as quite as plucky as we thought?

Confirming pretty much to anyone who’s ever seen Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss or Will & Grace who isn’t headless, Sean Hayes coyly addresses the issue of his orientation in the latest edition of The Advocate.

Hayes was probably one of the first of a growing number of actors who don’t try to play straight for the public, choosing instead to go solo to the events such as the both the Emmy’s and Golden Globe Awards.

While it’s absolutely no one’s business but his own to be sure, why would you agree to be interviewed by a gay magazine when your clearly uncomfortable addressing the subject in the first place? 

However, Hayes has a new role on Broadway to promote, so he probably decided to suck it up and agreed to speak to The Advocate.  The interview itself is sort of unremarkable but will probably serve as a good example to journalism students of getting a slightly hostile subject to open up.  Sort of.

Now for those who have the means to go hard but not um… long, we have Ex-tendZe.

Guys who feel they don’t measure up can take this supplement to get a little extra length and girth, supposedly helping turn little sapplings into mighty trees. 

And it was wood.

If this product delivers the goods, it’ll be the biggest seller almost no-one will be willing to admit actually taking (except for spokeswhore Jimmy Johnson).  Someone ought to give Jon Gosselin a heads up.

Moving on…

So Gerrard Butler went out on “date” number two with Jessica Simpson the other night in Santa Monica.  Guess he isn’t bothering trying to keep up appearances with Jennifer Aniston, now that just about every media outlet (including CNN) is calling her out on how her publicity machine works whenever she has a movie coming out.

Like the first “date” it included grabbing dinner with a group of friends (does it even qualify as a date then?) and Jess was seen leaving arm and arm with another pal when she left.  

As for Jess dating The Smashing Pumpkin’s Billy Corgan, that’s apparently fizzled out due to lack of chemistry and interest.

Sort of like Jessica’s career.
