What were they thinking?

As per Deadline Hollywood, one of the best female superheros ever has been given an updated costume for some reason. Tight black leather pants and jacket with boots.  Really?  That’s the best they could come up with??  (Ok, so they altered the bracelets a bit too.)

Years, ago DC pulled the same stunt with Superman, giving him a snazzy black and white outfit.  Notice how the characters not wearing it anymore in the comics?

DC says of the new look, “It reflects her origins in both the outside world and the world of Amazons: tough, elegant…a street-fighter’s look which also incorporates elements of her classic design.”

Apparently, along with the new outfit comes a new timeline, one where Paradise Island gets invaded and Diana is one of the few to escape as a child, the story then picks up some twenty years later with Diana/Wonder Woman hunted and on the run from her enemies.

Cue the countdown for fan backlash with DC abandoning this look to go back to the tried and true look we all grew up with.

Angelina Jolie is profiled in the August issue of Vanity Fair (available July 6th) just in time for the release her new action movie, Salt.

A few quotes from her interview are available online, and for the most part Ange talks about Brad and the kids.  Could this be a way of saying, “See, I’m just like you” to the Soccer Mom Brigade?  They don’t like Ange very much as she represents the threat of the other woman.  Maybe Ange (or far more likely her handlers) hope she’ll be cut some slack by having her talk about how committed she is to her family.  It’s all about marketability, see?  

Angie also talks about Shiloh, who she and Brad have gotten a lot of flack about recently for letting the kid dress the way she does, saying, “Shiloh dresses like a little dude. Shiloh, we feel, has Montenegro style. It’s how people dress there. She likes tracksuits, she likes (regular) suits. She likes to dress like a boy. She wants to be a boy. So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys’ everything. She thinks she’s one of the brothers.”

Uh-oh.

Cue the charge from self-righteous fuddy-duddies, clutching their pearls in horror, decrying that Angie and Brad are practically committing child abuse by letting Shiloh be a tomboy.

Uh-oh, we may have a  situation here.

New York City’s The Village Voice asked the boys of Jersey Shore to participate in a photo-shoot for an upcoming issue, and since the three are always looking for an excuse to (a) doff their shirts and (b), appear in the media, they were only too happy to oblige.

Thing is, the photo shoot was for “The Queer Issue” (out today), with a headline article on “The Guido Ideal” which focuses on young Italian-Americans in the Jersey area who are on the down-low (closeted but sexually active).  Given the general level of machismo in the culture (not to mention the Catholic upbringing), coming out in this enviroment can be a tricky er….situation.

MTV hasn’t made a comment about the new issue yet (and really, what is there to comment about)?  Here’s hoping the boys of Jersey Shore take it all in stide without feeling the need for too much postering (Ronnie, we’re looking at you).

Taylor Lautner is the cover boy for the upcoming issue of GQ and is profiled within.  The full interview is online if you care to take a look.  Since Taylor is managed 24/7 and everything he says is probably scrutinized by team of handlers prior to it leaving his mouth, I won’t bother regurgitating any of it here. 

It would be interesting and refreshing to actually get an honest off the cuff answer from the kid, but ain’t going to happen for a while.  He wants it too bad to risk being anything but coming across as sweet and dull.

Drams behind the scenes of Esquire’s “Woman We Love” May issue that featured Christina Hendricks (Joan on Mad Men) on the cover. 

Apparently, the honor was supposed to go to Scarlett Johansson (Iron Man 2) but according to Editor-In -Chief David Granger (who was in Toronto speaking at a magazine conference), “Scarlett completely screwed us.”

Thems fighting words.

Some insider told the New York Daily News that Scarlett was committed to the shoot but her work on current gig on Broadway may have gotten in the way of doing the shoot.  They went on to say that the magazine was supposed to be featuring American woman (which sounds like clasping at straws).

Interestingly, Granger couldn’t be reached for comment, and his original quote which appeared in The National Post , isn’t on the online version of the article.  A spokesminion for Esquire says they were “thrilled” to have Christina Hendricks on the cover but had nothing to say about the Scarlett situation.

Make of this what you will.

They picked you for the cover becuase your a man’s man.  Manly maning up with your hetrosexual manliness as no man can.

Man, the jokes almost write themselves.

So Tom Crusie is on the cover of Esquire’s How To Be A Man issue and either the editor was going for satire or strings were pulled because, lets face it, him??  Really???

Five years ago when Tom was supposed to be promoting War of The Worlds with Stephen Speilberg, he instead picked fights with Brooke Shields in the media and Matt Lauer on the Today Show, couch jumped on Oprah, and seemed to be determined to prove to the world that Kat-E Holmes was in no way an arranged or contrived relationship, pissing off Speilberg with his antics in the process.

Anyhoodle, Tom address’s the whole couch jumping incident and the aftermath (which is when his name pretty much became the punchline of many a joke).

On the Oprah Interview: “What happened, happened… I wanted the audience to be happy just like I wanted to make my sisters and my mother happy when I did those skits as a kid. But I’ll take responsibility for my actions… Afterward, wild things were being said about me, and once they’re in the ether, there’s nothing you can do about it. It felt like being the new kid in the schoolyard again and the other kids are whispering and whispering about you and suddenly you hear what they’re saying, and you think, What? That didn’t happen. Look at the reality of the situation.”

On the Oprah Fallout: “There was a confluence of events. My deal with Paramount was up and it wasn’t extended. At first it was, Huh? I don’t get it. But people have misconceptions about that whole thing, too. Sumner Redstone and I are friends. It’s a business.”

Actually, I remember at the time Hollywood seemed to be trying to distance itself from someone who seemed destined to get a 5150 (mandatory psych assessment) placed on them.  Maybe the stress of always being “ON” was staring to get to him then.  Who knows?

Esquire’s got more bits from the interview and Tom comes across far less manic than he usually does.  I’m guessing  he’s either been practicing on toning it down a notch or KatE has been slipping him Valium with his Xenu approved juice boxes.

Let’s just get this out of the way shall we?  Yowza. 

Are Matthew’s abs real, photoshoped, or contouring with makeup, or a combination of all three?  I’d happily volunteer to find out (a dirty job to be sure, but someone has to do it).

No, it’s not a theme park where you get to “work it”, this is the tittle of Tyra Banks latest foray, as an author.

A trilogy, “Modelland” about a teenager and her friends who are transported to a magical world where beings called “intoxibellas” learn to rule at an exclusive academy, have various powers, and go on “edgy sexy exciting adventures”.

So take The Lord of The Rings, add some Harry Potter, blend in America’s Next Top Model and a dash of The Wizard of Oz and you’d probably have Tyra’s premise (or a reasonable facsimile thereof).

Tyra also says shes basing some of the characters in the books on people she’s dealt with over the years in the biz, both ”the nice and the ice”.  Guess if Tyra creates characters based on Janice Dickinson, Paulina Porizkova, and Naomi Campbell they’ll be the villians of the story. 

The first novel in the series is supposed to be published some time next year.  Sounds “fierce”!

Who says there’s no appeal for the game in North America?

The new issue of Vanity Fair has a cover story on The World Cup and wisely choose to put star player and Emporio Armani underwear model Cristiano Ronaldo (right) on the cover along with Dider Drogba.

Now that’s ripped.

The only thing that would have made this better is if they had included the currently sidelined David Beckham with them.

The World Cup starts in just over a month.  I’ll be watching (boy , will I be watching)  will you?

Chely Wright is a country music star who also just happens to have a new album called Lifted Off The Ground as well as a memoir, Like Me being released this week. 

It’s all about cross-promotion these days.

Her book gives insight on her experiences living as a closeted lesbian in the country music sub-culture, which tends to be kind of conservative (when they’re not singing about bar fights, random hook-ups, cheatin’ spouses and vandalizing the cars of douchebags) in it’s views, especially when it comes to homosexuality.  

While Chely deserves props for being herself and no longer keeping things on the down low, I can’t help but be a little under-whelmed with her announcement.  I was sort of hoping it might be someone…bigger. 

That being said, today is only May 3rd.  Does this mean there’s someone else coming out May 5th that no one knows about yet?
