Why does it always take a bad girl to make a good TV show even better? 

Although initially dismissed as a Twilight knockoff, The Vampire Diaries quickly put those comparisons to rest to become a bonafide hit for the CW and one of the bright spots on network TV last year.

Besides super-bitch bad ass vamp Katherine um…vamping it up on the show’s fictional setting of Mystic Falls, show runner Kevin Williamson (Dawson’s Creek, Scream)  also promises to explore Tyler Lockwood’s dual nature (hint: things are going to get hairy) this year.

As long as this means there’s more gratuitous shirtlessness.

The three leads of True Blood, Alexander Skarsgard, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer (Eric, Sookie, and Bill) bare it all except for some fake blood for the cover story inside.  Lucky bitch.

Series creator Alan Ball tells the magazine, “To me vampires are sex.  I don’t get a vampire story about abstinence.  I’m 53.  I don’t care about high school students.  I find them irritating and uninformed.”

Oh, SNAP.

Not all vampires look like brooding high school students or 18th century aristocrats gone modern.

Based on a Swedish film that got rave reviews at the Tribeca Film Festival a couple of years back, Let Me In looks like it’s going to bring the suspense and chills in spades.

There’s a new hunk on the block and he’s neither human (Jason Stackhouse, Lafayette) or vampire (Bill, Eric). 

The trailer was shown towards the end of the season finale of The Vampire Diaries (which totally delivered the goods, in case you were wondering).

The new season of True Blood starts June 13th on HBO.

Well, actually the woman who plays her is.  Unlike recent self serving outings (Ricky Martin, Sean Hayes), this announcement did catch people off guard.

Anna Paquin of True Blood and the X-Men has come out as bi-sexual in a PSA for Cyndi Lauper’s  True Colors Fund which promotes Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, and Transgender equality.  In the spot, the 27 year old actress announces “I’m Anna Paquin. I’m bisexual, and I give a damn“.

Apparently, no one knew she was going to do this prior to filming the spot.  Wonder if her fiance and co-star Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) knew about her orientation before-hand?

An even better question, when is Alexsander Skarsgaard (Eric) going to make a lot of gays happy and follow suit?  (Sadly, probably never).

Will HBO release a WILF (werewolf) ad once season three gets underway?

Currently watching season two on HBO Canada as I missed it the first time it aired last summer, and am completely hooked.

Since HBO went there with the ad, I went there with the picture on the right.

The publisher that brought us Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters are now turning their attention to actual historical figures.

If Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter sells like Seth Grahame-Smith’s other novels (and the trailer for the book is just purposely bad enough to guarantee interest in it), chances are other historical figures will get similar treatment. 

Not sure if it’s too soon or not, but can’t you just picture Ronald Regan as a space alien?

The Hollywood Reporter says Kevin Alejandro (Ugly Betty, Southland) has joined the series as Lafayatte’s boyfriend.  The storyline has the actor portraying a care giver named Jesus initially hired to take care of Lafayatte’s mother, Ruby Jean Reynolds (Alfre Woodard) and becomes involved with him.  Nakedness probably ensues.

Guess Alan Ball and his writers wondered why Madonna should have all the fun in getting various “play on words” with dating someone with that name?  Cue the outrage!  from the usual suspects in 5, 4, 3…

Joe Manganiello, probably best known for parts in Spider-Man,  One Tree Hill, and How I Met Your Mother, has won the coveted role of Alcide (al-cee) Herveaux.

In the novels that the HBO series is based on, the character plays a major part in the third book, when Eric calls in a favor Alcide’s family owes the vampires to help Sookie search for a MIA Bill.

Alcide also just happens to be a werewolf. 

A plucky heroine attracted to a werewolf but in love with a vampire….hmm sounds familiar.  Before any of you get on a soapbox, Club Dead, the novel that introduced Alcide to the “Sookieverse”, predates those “other” human/werewolf/vampire novels by about three years. 

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until next summer (boo) to find out how much season three of True Blood follows or strays from the original source material. 

Cue the countdown for the inevitable “Who’s hotter, Alcide or Eric?” debate.
