Rihanna is the “Only Girl (In the world)”

This should make more of dent in the charts than Russian Roulette did around this time last year.

Only Girl (In The World), Rihanna’s first single of her upcoming album Loud is a a punchy dance orientated track that sort of reminds me of Disturbia.   The remixes (and you know there’ll be a lot of them) should be pretty good as well.

As for the cover art for the single above….meh.  Sitting in a field with no clothes on and tragically weird hair?  She looks like an escaped clown from the circus.

Heir to the King officially announced

Looks like The Donald was right after all.

Confirming speculation and rumour, CNN announced that Piers Morgan will be replacing semi-mummified geriatric sex symbol Larry King as the host of a as yet to be named show in the 9pm slot.

Since Larry’s show was called Live why not Livelier, since Piers is much younger?  No?  Ok, I’ll keep working on it.

Piers is probably best known for being a judge on America’s Got Talent and winning Celebrity Apprentice a few years ago.  In a statement, Piers says he’s “thrilled to be joining CNN” blah, blah, blah, “biggest and best TV news organization” blah, blah, ” passionate and relentless search for the truth” blah, “filling the legendary suspenders of the man I consider to be the greatest TV interviewer of them all”.

I hope Piers doesn’t fawn over his guests like that, it’ll cause rampant tooth decay and nausea.

Emmy Awards Yays, Nays, and Winners

Yay – That opening number.  There were just enough laughs in it to make it work and Kate Gosselin showing up in that outfit from Dancing With The Stars?  Brilliant.

Nay – Some of the jokes throughout the evening just fell flat with a resounding THUD (Matthew Perry, January Jones, et all, I’m looking at you).

Yay – Running time.  3 hours on the nose (although it did seem longer at some points and I even took an hour “break” to watch True Blood).

Nay – Some of the pickings for some of the categories seem slim.  Best Miniseries?  There were a grand total of two entries.  Television has changed a lot since the days when mini-series were produced en mass.  Same goes with Reality TV.  The Emmy’s needs to embrace this form of television more as it’s not going anywhere.  Learn it.  Live it.  Love it.

Yay – The same actors, actresses, and TV shows didn’t all win again (a common Emmy Award complaint).  Modern Family, Sue Sylvestor (Glee), Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory),  Eddie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), and Top Chef all walked away with trophies for first time wins.

Nay – The in memoriam piece with that number by Jewel.  The less said about it the better.

Yay – George Clooney.  Be it his acceptence speech or his involvement in that extremely funny Modern Family skit , he was in a much better mood than he was at the Oscars.

Here’s a list of the winners.

Trailer for AMC’s “The Walking Dead”

“>

AMC, which has gotten heaps of praise for their first three series, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and Rubicon, is now entering the horror genre with a series about zombies ( I refuse to refer to them as the living impaired).

Based on a series of graphic novels with the same name, The Walking Dead focuses on survivors trying to rebuild and move on without falling prey to the dead after the world becomes zombified.

The series premieres Sunday, October 31st at 10pm.

Gary Busey as fantasy lawyer Norman Tugwater for Vitamin Water

This is truly one of the most bizarre commercials I have ever seen.  That being said, it’s also kind of funny, yet intense (mostly because of Gary Busey and his giant horse teeth).

“Skyline” teaser trailer gives sense of deja-vu

“>

The movie, in which alien ships invade LA (apparently the city of choice for alien invasions in 2011, with Battle: Los Angelesalso scheduled for release later that year) seems all to familiar.

Maybe it’s the reboot of V or Independence Day I’m thinking of.  Then again, once you’ve seen a bunch of CGI spaceships hovering menacingly over a city, there’s really no going back is there?

Feel Kanye West’s “Power”

“>

Catchy tune.

As for the video (short as it is), it looks part Renaissance painting and part satirical commentary about the past year of Kanye’s life, since he rushed the stage at the MTV Video Awards and drew harsh criticism afterwards.

Kanye depicts himself in the video as a king that looks like he’s about to get his head cut off.  Did those angels look like Taylor Swift to you?

Video for Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie” with Rihanna released

“>

Great song.  Great video.

Rhianna actually got flack from some people for singing a song that deals with domestic violence because of her past experience with Chris Brown.

Considering that both she and Eminem are familar with the issue (flip sides of the same coin) it should be a no brainer that she sing it with him, never mind that her vocals are amazing on this track.

Cher returns to the big screen in “Burlesque”

“>

Does anyone still care?

Will this do better at the theatres than Nine

Will Burlesque become an instant camp classic?

Will Christina Aguilera find a hit through this movie that she didn’t in her album Bionic?

Will Cher be able to move her face or show any expression whatsoever without CGI?

Will Stanley Tucci be lost without regular co-star Meryl Streep?

Guess we’ll have to wait til November when the movie opens for answers.

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark

“>

Seriously.  There’s nothing, nothing! to be afraid of, hiding under the bed, in the basement, crawling through the air ducts, lurking in the shadows almost, but not quite, out of sight.

Based on the 1972 made for TV movie (which was all kind of shlocky but still terrified me when I saw it as a kid), the theatrical remake is directed by Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labrinyth, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army) and stars Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes.

It should come out later this year, but since the film is tied to the quagmire that is Mirimax, it could be delayed.
